PRP Ovarian and endometrium rejuvenation
Ovarian PRP is a method of ovarian rejuvenation that is recommended for women with a diminished ovarian reserve or low-quality oocytes. The quality of oocytes largely depends on the woman’s age.
The Process of Ovarian PRP Therapy
In PRP ovarian rejuvenation therapy, blood is drawn from the woman and processed to collect specific elements, which are then injected into the ovaries. More specifically, through the process of centrifugation, platelets and growth factors in the blood are separated. The injection is performed similarly to the egg retrieval process during IVF. As a result, the infusion of plasma with a high concentration of platelets and growth factors into the ovaries can stimulate existing stem cells to produce new, healthy eggs.
What is the Process of Ovarian PRP?
Initially, approximately one hour before the procedure, blood is taken from the patient and processed in the laboratory as described above. When the PRP is ready, mild anaesthesia is administered, and the doctor proceeds to inject it into each of the ovaries under simultaneous ultrasound monitoring.
Post-Treatment Recovery and Sensations
The patient can leave the hospital after about an hour and a half and return to her normal daily activities the next day. The sensation the patient may experience after the treatment is similar to period pain and can be managed with painkillers if necessary.
Ideal Timing for PRP Treatment
The ideal time for PRP ovarian rejuvenation in women who have a menstrual cycle is immediately after menstruation and one day before ovulation (between the 5th and 13th day of the cycle). For women who do not menstruate, the treatment can be performed on any day.
Post-Treatment Follow-Up
After the treatment, patients who have not had a period or did not produce oocytes and wish to become pregnant should follow the following steps for three months:
- Every 15 days, estradiol measurements and ultrasounds should be conducted for the doctor to assess if incipient follicles have been created. It is common for these follicles not to progress to ovulation. In such cases, ovulation can be induced with medication, and the patient can either have intercourse or, preferably, proceed with egg retrieval to create embryos through fertilization of their oocytes for transfer.
- Monthly measurements of AMH and FSH hormones should also be done to monitor progress.
Does PRP Help Fertility?
PRP ovarian rejuvenation is a promising technique, especially for women approaching the age limit for fertility treatments. It offers hope for improving oocyte quality and enhancing fertility outcomes.
